It took the lives of around a million people from Armenia. The genocide ultimately caused many terrible things in the lives of people.

The Beginning of the GenocideA group known as the "Yong Turks" over threw the Sultan and took over the Ottoman under General Talaat Pasha in 1908.
Since Ottoman became a more Constitutional Government everyone assumed Christians would have rights, but they were persecuted more than they have ever been in Ottoman.

How people were treated during the GenocideDuring the genocide, millions of people were forced from their homes and were killed.
They were send to death camps to die. Many died of starvation. People were also killed by various tortures like: -burned alive -drowning -pushed of of cliffs -crucifixion The genocide officially ends in 1922 killing 1.5 million Christians. Leaving only 388,000 survivors in Ottoman.

Consequences of the GenocideThe genocide caused many negative consequences for Christians in Armenia.
They lost many of their land. Therefore, Armenian farmers and others were forced in to dept.
The Turks also destroyed their religious monuments and artifacts. Some even left their homeland and flee to Russia and other borders.
The wealthy Armenians found a way to go to America and other foreign countries. |
